Easter was an adventure around here. Saturday was a nice day, thank goodness, because Sunday it poured down rain. Saturday morning we let the boys dye eggs. Yes, they're not wearing anything but diapers, but if you're reading this you've more likely than not met my children (or at least read the horror stories) and therefore, should not be judging us. And yes, that's cardboard on the table. We're too heavy duty for newspaper in this house. Ha ha. Anyway, the greatest mishap? Tanner tried to drink the dye.....with the egg in the cup. Apparently it looked like juice cause that's what he kept mumbling, but I'm sorry, vinegar doesn't smell like juice. Sometimes I have no idea what goes through that kid's mind. No worries, caught him just in time. We probably should've just let him drink it, then maybe he wouldn't try it again next year. Anyhow they had a blast. Too bad we didn't hide those egss. Why'd we dye them then you say? Not sure. Cause it's fun, I guess.

Kyle then hid a bunch of plastic eggs so the boys could do an Easter Egg hunt. He hid them in the orchard next to our house. You'd think that the eggs just sitting in the leafless cherry trees would have been the most obvious to find, but they did better in the tall grass. Weird. Eventually they caught on to the looking slightly upward technique and all eggs were found. None lost (which is a miracle in a Walker egg hunt). We've been missing eggs for years at my parents' house. My Dad would get really excited about all the hard places he found, but then when nobody would find them, he couldn't exactly remember where he hid them either. I'm still convinced it's squirrels. Otherwise, those eggs would have to turn up in the yard eventually. Anyway, before we started I thought Hunter was going to have a heart attack. He was SO excited. He just kept saying (about every three minutes), "I'm so happy it's Easter, Mom! I can't wait to find eggs!" After which, he'd peak out the front door trying to see what Kyle was doing. Tanner just wanted "outside!" When we bring him in from outside he has all out fits.....every day.....so he was just excited to get out there. He did catch on to finding eggs eventually, thanks to his helpful brother. We actually thought Hunter would try to hog all of the eggs for himself and steal them from Tanner (cause that's what he does with their toys), but he didn't. He taught Tanner how to find them instead. It was so cute.

Sunday morning they were really excited to get their baskets from "Peanut Butter Rabbit." Hunter has this Peter Rabbit book, which is one of the boys' favorites (not sure why, but it is). Anyway, he used to think we were saying Peanut Butter Rabbit instead of Peter Rabbit and so now he thinks the Easter Bunny is Peanut Butter Rabbit. Oh boy. I didn't even try explaining that one away. So, the evil Easter Bunny got the boys the hunting calls they've wanted forever. They're electronic push button ones instead of the harder ones with reeds that you have to learn to blow on correctly. So now, my days are filled with the sounds of distressed rabbits, coyotes, turkeys, ducks, deer, woodpeckers, and who knows what else. I've already been lectured by my three year old about how I don't know my animal sounds. Whatever. Anyway, they got squirt guns and frisbees and way too much candy to keep me sane. Oh well. Haylee got a little stuffed bunny and lamb. As you can see, she wasn't too excited about any of our events. She slept through absolutely everything and then was awake when we were doing nothing. Ah well, better luck next year I'm sure.

Well, we had a great day at church after that......although I'm pretty sure the boys still aren't grasping the connection with Easter. They'll learn. Oh yeah, and then Haylee of course wanted to eat and then leaked out of her diaper during Relief Society, so I missed our Easter lesson. It's all about effort though, right? Anyway, we're grateful for the Resurrection of our Savior and all that that means. What a wonderful blessing it is to have that knowledge and peace.
Then we cooked up a delicious ham. I say delicious not because of any skill of ours, but the glaze that came with this ham was absolutely delightful. So.....we're good shoppers. Kyle made his dutch oven potatoes to go with. Then, his Dad and our nephew, Tailor, came out for a little while to eat and play with the kids. The boys sure love Gramps and Tailor.

Anyhow, all in all, it was a great weekend full of typical Huwe family excitement. I don't know what I'd do to entertain myself if my kids weren't crazy. Life would just be no fun.

That looks a great time! I did the same thing with my brother and sister-in-law while I visited them last week (maybe I'll eventually blog about it), but we managed without heavy-duty cardboard and kept our clothes on :). I also love how the Easter Bunny is evil since he left your boys automated hunting calls. I'd probably say the same thing! HA
Crazy Easter bunny - leaving the boys with hunting calls =] Looks like you guys had a wonderful Easter!!
With Kyle's nasty ankle and Tanner trying to drink vinegar, today was not a good day to read your blog. (I'm feeling sick :)... and reading all that nearly sent me running to the toilet to hurl!)
But it made me feel better to see sweet perfect pictures of your sweet perfect Haylee. My goodness she is pretty!
I started laughing as soon as I saw the cardboard. (That was before I'd read any of the posting.) Then I realized, "Hey, that was a really good call." So, good parenting. Keep it up.
You also made an excellent call keeping Tanner from drinking the dye. True, vinegar would be a great deterrent, but his teeth would be dyed for who knows how long. (Try explaining that at church or to the CPS folks.)
I can't believe you didn't lose any eggs! You're a Walker and it's a tradition, dang it!... Oh well. Can't have everything, I guess.
It looks like the Peanut Butter Rabbit brought the kids a pretty decent haul. Nice. Haylee really seemed to embody my enthusiasm for the holiday so I'm sure we're kindred spirits.
Can't wait to see you guys in a few weeks! :)
I can't believe you gave in to the animal call things. sheesh! ha ha
Looks like such a fun day!
