Cutting Down Our Tree

Well, while we over on the west side for Thanksgiving we decided to go to one of those U-cut Christmas Tree Farms to cut down our tree. There were like 20 within a 15 mile radius of my parents' house, so we figured our odds were better.....I guess it's all the rain. Anyway, it was a perilous decision because Hunter's been talking about this for a month. He wanted to use his own "saw" to cut it down, but we obviously didn't have his plastic saw with us. Well, he forgot all about it once we got there.

We ended up picking out a really pretty douglas fir. I have to admit that it WAS a good looking tree, even though I'm not generally a bushy tree sort of person. I like Oregon Spruce. But, now that the tree's up, I'm pretty attached. It's cute.
Here Hunter is helping out with the real saw, which only lasted a couple of seconds because he couldn't really reach. He didn't seem to care. And there's Tanner, looking on all excited......but then......

As you may be able to tell in this photo, Tanner is bawling. All was fine and dandy until the tree fell over. Don't ask me where he learned to do this, but he crouched down and covered his head like he was in the middle of an earthquake or someone was firing a round of shots. He started hysterically screaming and trying to climb my leg. I was holding the saw at this point and in my large state couldn't exactly help the poor kid. He cried until we got in the car. The whole time Kyle carried the tree, he cried and had to be held. We're not exactly sure what the problem was, but when Kyle was making sure the tree was straight in the stand last night, it started leaning over and the same episode started again. Makes me wonder.....what has my child been watching on TV?:) Anyway......now that's it decorated and standing perfectly erect, he's fine.....and trying to pull off the ornaments and tip my tree over every chance he gets. This should be a fun month. Good thing I love the Christmas season, so I'll probably survive the torture.

What, no pictures of the tree post decorating? We're not doing a tree this year because we leave Christmas day for two weeks, so I'm sad :(

Wow I wonder what triggered that in Tanner?!? I loved the pics though. I wonder if by the 25th you won't have any ornaments on the bottom of the tree...

Speaking of tree, I need to get ours AND put up our limited decorations for this year! School stuff first though!

I think that you should try to convince yourself that he saw one of the many Christmas movies that have the tree falling over. I am glad that you were on the west side for Thanksgiving as I felt a little bad for not calling Kyle while we were in Kennewick.

I'm with Crystal, no picture of the decorated tree. Poor Tanner. I hope that he outgrows his fear of trees coming down. Just think of the hysterics if he pulls it over on himself. Cute pictures. Love you all and wish I could have spent more time with you on Thanksgiving.

How fun! I remember we did that one year when I was young and we thought we get this nice full tree and then once we got home, we realized it was a bit of a "Charlie Brown Tree". It must have been the nicest one compared to all the others! ha ha Yours looks great though!
Hunter is so stinkin' cute! And Tanner...maybe he's a tree-hugger and was sad that you cut it down??
