Perhaps it’s simply vanity, but I loved Haylee’s hair. She was born with a head full of hair and it grew quickly. Her curly blonde hair reached nearly the middle of her back. I never cut one hair on her head and had no intention of doing so any time soon. Hunter had different intentions. Yesterday he cut one of her pigtails. Luckily I walked in before the situation got worse (because he was headed for more), but nonetheless she lost about 3 1/2 to 4 inches. One thing saved her from looking like a boy. It was late afternoon and her ponytails were sliding down. He cut below the band which wasn’t tight against her head. My friend, Heather, did damage control for me today. She was able to keep it a little bit longer than where he cut it because she was able to make it blend in. She said she’s seen much worse and I’m grateful for that. Nevertheless, I’m still mourning the loss. When I saw him holding those scissors and a pile of her hair on the floor my heart stopped. I’m fairly certain that my face startled Hunter as well because he instantly burst into tears. I sent him to his room so I didn’t kill him and he promptly fell asleep. Poor Hunter…..poor Haylee…..Poor Mommy. Kyle’s sister informed me that the urge to cut their sibling’s hair is a totally genetic trait. Apparently Kyle chopped both of hers off. After which he tried to glue them back on. When that didn’t work, he hid them in a coffee can so his parents wouldn’t notice. Did I mention he also superglued his lips together when he was six? Something to look forward to, I guess…..
Alright, so be prepared for two year old photos without the long, blonde locks. Oh sigh.

OMG reading about what Kyle did made me laugh VERY loud. WOW...glue and everything! Very original Kyle!
Seems like a pretty normal rite of passage for kids to want to cut their own or someone else's hair. I remember cutting mine, but for whatever reasons I guess it didn't do too much damage. Looks like damage control went pretty well for Haylee here...
Oh man! I am crying for you just reading this. She still looks adorable though. I little boy cut my hair off when I was little too.
So sad! For some reason I kept thinking it was Tanner that did it even though I was reading Hunter's name. On the bright side, I love her new hair cut. She pulls if off very nicely!
I've read articles about our love affair with our daughter's flowing locks. It's true...it's beautiful and something so innocent in those tresses.
Emily did her own hair cut, but I managed to come upon her as she made the first cut, which was on the top of her head and she only left about an inch, but it was such a small amount that no one else ever knew. After that, I have put (and kept) scissors on the top of shelves where they can't reach them even IF they climb on other objects. Thus far, we've been safe. But, it IS a constant vigil and sometimes quite annoying when working on a project.
In the end, it's just hair and it will grow back. And, it makes for great family memories to discuss later on, although you mourn in the moment. =)
She's still dang adorable no matter what. :) Also, I appreciate your descriptive post.
Bri she is still adorable and she seems to be pleased with the job. I feel for you. I cried when Annette got her hair cut.
Don't feel too bad. Every kid does it. I cut my brother's hair and he cut mine. I still to this day remember thinking we both did a GREAT job and didn't understand why my mom was so upset! ha ha
I have to agree that she looks adorable with her new hair cut. Such a big girl!
